**********The incumbent is responsible to the Senior Auditor in carrying out internal auditing, inspection and other functions authorized by the Agency, and supervises Auditor B as required during assignments. The incumbent at this level work individually or as a leader or a member of an audit team.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct audits, inspections of Headquarters functions and field offices; undertake ad-hoc functions as assigned by DIOS related to allegations and complaints submitted internally or externally to the Agency;
  • Document, evaluate and test systems, control, governance and information processes to determine their adequacy and effectiveness, ensuring:

  • compliance with policies and procedures,
  • accomplishment of management's objectives,
  • reliability and integrity of information,
  • economical use of resources, and
  • safeguarding of assets.

  • Analyze evidence gathered and developed, communicate and discuss findings, recommendations and time lines for corrective actions with responsible officers of operations audited, and monitor the implementation status of agreed recommendations;
  • Supervise and coach audit team member/s throughout the assignments with the view to ensuring conformity with Institute of Internal Audit (IIA) Standards in all phases of the audit process; review the work of Auditor B during the field visit assignments;
  • Use Computer Assistant Audit Techniques (CAAT) and take initiative in identifying and developing tools including guidelines, techniques and criteria and for conducting audit assignments in order to strengthen internal controls such as self-assessment techniques;
  • Prepare/participate in preparations for risk-based audit plans/ programmes in accordance with IIA Standards;
  • Draft audit/assignment reports to the Senior Auditor.

Professional Knowledge and Experience

  • Advanced university degree preferably in finance, business administration, accounting from an accredited educational institution OR
  • A university degree in finance, business administration, accounting plus professional certification in accounting or auditing (CPA, CIA, CMA etc.) from an accredited educational institution;
  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in audit or a related area such as finance, accounting, business administration, statistics, computer science with a large government, international or commercial organization;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.


  • Proven skills and ability to identify issues, formulate opinions, make conclusions and recommend solutions;
  • Knowledge of how to integrate gender considerations into substantive work areas;
  • Ability to establish priorities and to plan, coordinate and monitor work against plans, present evidence;
  • Willingness to keep current on new developments in the accounting and audit field;
  • Actively seeks to apply technology to appropriate tasks;
  • Proven ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to communicate effectively orally;
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals;
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with auditees and colleagues.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Working Knowledge of UN Rules, regulations and Procedures;
  • Working knowledge of Arabic.

Additional Information
The position entails frequent travel which may include hardship locations.

When the minimum requirements are not fully met, Field Director for Field Area staff and Director of Human Resources for Headquarters Area staff, in consultation with the concerned supervisor may exceptionally substitute part of the unmet requirements with a combination of relevant academic qualifications, additional professional training and progressive relevant work experience.
NB: Work experience alone or formal qualifications with no relevant work experience are not considered an acceptable combination.

Conditions of Service
The fixed term appointment is for 3 years including 1 year probation period. Monthly basic salary is JD 1086.60 plus special occupation allowance of 69.90 % from the basic salary. Other benefits include monthly Provident Fund contribution (15% of basic salary paid by the Agency), compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, and dependency allowance (if applicable).
