    Place in the OrganisationThe incumbent is responsible to the Senior Medical Officer or Medical Officer in charge of the Health Centre, and under the technical supervision of the Field/Area Nursing Officer, supervises nursing, midwifery and domestic staff.Primary Duties and Responsibilities In accordance with established Agency policy and procedures the incumbent carries out the following:- Acts as principal nursing officer at the health centre and supervises and directs staff nurses and other nursing, midwifery and domestic staff, and advises on their performance; Directs and participates in all activities related to nurses role in implementation of the Agencys medical care, disease control, mother and child health care and family planning and supplementary feeding programmes in the health centre to which assigned; Assists the responsible Medical Officer in the administration of the health centre, controls and keeps records of equipment, uniforms, linen, sundries and other medical supplies needed for nursing activities, ensures their continued availability and supervises disposal of used items; Supervises and controls the maintenance of a high standard of cleanliness and infection control in the health centre; Conducts on-the-job training of supervised staff and participates in the in-service courses as and when required; Performs such other duties as may be assigned.Minimum Qualifications Possession of a B.S. in nursing or a diploma in general nursing of at least three years duration; A license to practice nursing in the country of duty station. At least three years of satisfactory working experience as a qualified nurse provided with a certificate of satisfactory working experience for one year in maternal and child health; Experience in the use of computers and an understanding of their use in health applications. Good command of spoken and written English and Arabic.
    Competencies Ability to work under pressure and cope with heavy workload;
    Adequate computer skills;
    Excellent organizational and communication skills;
    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONSDiploma or certificate in midwifery or public health nursing.
    EQUIVALENCYWhen the minimum requirements are not fully met, the Director of UNRWA Operations may exceptionally substitute part of the unmet requirements with a combination of relevant academic qualifications, additional professional training and progressive relevant work experience.NB: Work experience alone or formal qualifications with no relevant work experience are not considered an acceptable combination.
